Gratitude and God

"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; his love endures forever!" (Ps 136:1)

Gratitude is at the heart of our faith. The New Testament spills over with gratitude because of the good things God has accomplished for us. It is the pure, appropriate response to the saving and restoring grace of God.

Gratitude is central to our lives with God, and if we ever find that our faith has grown stale, all we need to do is find those things for which we are grateful to reignite our love of our Creator. Nothing puts us in touch with God like gratitude! Giving thanks for what's in front of us reminds us how loving and gracious God is. All of us have simple, beautiful, God-given things, which we can appreciate. Open your eyes and see that God "does wonderful things without number" (Job 5:9). Every day!

Those who are blessed with the presence of children are never at a loss for gratitude to God. He provides daily blessings and infinite reminders through kids that He is good. Thank Him for their vibrant energy and their sleep. Well, when they sleep. Relish in the simplest pleasures of hearing an infant squeal in delight during a game of "peek-a-boo," and watching a toddler munch on Cheerios, and patching up a "boo-boo" on a skinned knee, and, everyone's favorite, watching a baby doze peacefully in a crib. These moments are priceless. These moments are timeless. These moments are part of God's divine plan.

Be grateful and give Him thanks every day, for He is good!
