Thanksgiving Tribute: Despite Current Circumstances, Let's Have An Attitude of Gratitude

This year's message is challenging to write and Thanksgiving is unlike any we’ve ever had. Suffice it to say, much of this world is in crisis. There is confusion, isolation, disease, loneliness, anger, loss, division, and despair all around us. There are truly no words to express our sadness for the current state of affairs throughout the world or our sorrow to those of you who have lost loved ones due to the Covid-19 pandemic and other causes! But take some comfort in knowing they are looking down from Heaven and watching over you!

Despite this unusual year of limited or no family gatherings for Thanksgiving, we can and should still have an attitude for gratitude! We must give God the glory and thanks for his favor, love, provisions, and protection over our lives. We must honor him for all things and have a grateful heart for his many blessings - both big and small!

Today, let's come before the Lord with humble hearts of thanksgiving in a way that we never have. Let's put aside thoughts of what we don't have - and focus on the relationships, health, food, shelter, and clothing we do have! Despite all we’ve been through - or what we may currently be going through - I hope we still find some ways to fellowship with family and partake together in some good food (even if it's via ZOOM)!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

The Lord loves us and has a heart for us! We are his chosen people we are all here for a purpose. We might not know what that is, but God knows! We serve a loving and mighty God who tries his best to comfort us when we cry out to him. We might receive a response immediately - but He sees us; He hears us; and He knows the desires of our hearts. Jesus said, "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20. Have faith and continue to pray fervently for the needs and desires of your heart. The Lord will respond! He may not come when you want him to, but he's always right on time!

So again - let's put God at the center of this day! Let's lift up our voices in collective prayer to heal all the situations in the world, in our countries, and in our families! Today, let's pause and reflect. Today, let's come before the Lord with grateful hearts and just thank him!! Sure, things could be better – but they could also be a lot worse! So let's count our blessings!

Happy Thanksgiving
