Their Little Eyes Are Watching

This may come as a surprise to some of you - for others maybe not so much - but our kids watch us - their beloved parents - every single day! More closely than we think! More often than we know. They internalize our emotions and look to us for guidance. And they listen to us more than we believe (well... that is, until they become teenagers! LOL!)
For these and so many other reasons we must be conscious of the type of energy we give off and how we respond to everyday "life" situations because our children feed off of our energy. We must be selective in the company we keep and the places we go. We must stand firm in our Christian values and always do the right thing according to what we know is the truth - even when it's uncomfortable or difficult. We must forgive and love others. And above all, we must make God the head of our lives. It is our duty to teach these things to our kids - and to be living examples for them. Their little eyes are watching us!
Here are just a couple of things to keep in mind as you strive to be a strong role model for your children.
Parenting Is Not An Exact Science
All God wants from us is that we do our best - according to his will. Parenting is wonderful and parenting can be challenging. Here's a little secret - even the best moms "wing it" sometimes! It's an on the job learning experience like none other. Some days you'll pat yourself on the back for "sticking the landing" - and you'll proudly wear your badge of honor as "best mommy ever." On other days you'll feel defeated as you look at your child and question "whose child are you?" These feelings are all perfectly normal. And so are you! So don't beat yourself if for any missteps! Celebrate your successes and learn from your trials. Your tests will one day become your testimonies! God will get you through whatever parenting phase you're currently in. Don't second guess yourself. You've got this! Just stay prayed up and leave it to Him. Their little eyes are watching how you handle stress.
Enjoy Every Stage of You're Journey As a Mom
The journey of motherhood is a beautiful thing! And just like the stages of your child's life can be dissected into many stages. And regardless of whether you're a first-time mom or a mom of multiples, each stage is precious and unique (just like your children). First, there's the precious newborn/infant stage when we're in awe of God's creation. Next, we enter the explorer stage of our sweet little toddlers ("terrible twos withstanding). Next is the fun grade school stage where their minds are open to endless possibilities. Then our little ones become independent tweens who show us how rooted our seeds are planted in them. And finally - we send our teenager off into the big scary world to be great! As moms, we ride the waves right alongside our children. Never be too busy to stop whatever you're doing to tend to them. Their little eyes are watching how you prioritize your time.
Follow God's Lead
Draw on God's word to live a life that God is proud of. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says it best: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. Their little eyes are watching how you treat others.
Remember That God Will Never Give Us More Than We Can Handle
Every day is different and brings unique blessings and challenges. Some days are blissful and other days are stressful. Parenting is wonderful. And it's hard. But as the adage goes - anything worth having is worth working for. Get to know your children as individuals. Grow with them. Play with them. Pray with them. Stay encouraged. God never gives us more than we can handle, and he'll never give up on us. Their little eyes are watching how you prioritize God.
I implore all mothers to enjoy the journey with your children and appreciate every single moment of every single day with them. Time really does fly by quickly. Introduce them to God early. Teach them Biblical values and life lessons on every imaginable topic. Pray with them. And set them up to live up to the destiny that God has for them. It starts with you, mommy.
