Ways To Keep CHRIST In Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – the Christmas season is here!

Everywhere we turn, the sights, sounds, and wonders of Christmas surround us ready to captivate our family’s hearts.

Our family loves celebrating Christmas, but we’ve learned that the holidays can easily turn into the most stressful time of the year if we don’t closely guard our time, wallets, and hearts.

With so many temptations surrounding us, it’s easy to over-schedule, over-spend, and waste precious time pursuing activities that aren’t Christ-honoring if we’re not careful.

The secret to having a joyful, peaceful Christmas lies in keeping our families focused on the miraculous birth of Jesus and the incredible gift that God gave us when He sent us His only Son!

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14

Here are some ways that help us stay focused on Jesus throughout the Christmas season:

  1. Give God your time.

Pray, meditate in His word. This seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes we have to be reminded of this simple yet detrimental aspect of how we live. This will help to keep us focused on the things of above.

  1. Talk to your children often about the true reason we celebrate.

Children are very impressionable and can get caught up easily in the gifts at this time of year. Teach them to be grateful while explaining to them that they are only things and Jesus and giving to others is the best way to celebrate Christmas.

     3.    Being Still

The hustle and bustle and ‘noise’ of Christmas can interfere with our ability to truly experience the gift of His presence.  We may become tangled up in material possessions and Christmas gifts that didn’t allow room for our Savior.   Making room for the Savior involves choosing to not be swept up in the ideals our world presents as necessary and finding the peace He offers in the reality.

  1. Share the love of Christ

People are hurting and alone especially in this time of pandemic. Bless someone by helping them in some area they are struggling in. Be sure to involve the kids in this so they will see what it feels like to give of yourself and truly love your neighbor. Remember on the holidays there are still people working. They are doctors, nurses, firemen, policemen…Bless them. Take them some cookies, order them a pizza, just do something. Share the love of Christ!

Christmas shouldn’t be about a checklist; but it should be about Christ.  Because true joy only comes from knowing Jesus. So, let’s slow down, simplify, and savor this season.
